Got an IRS Letter in North Miami? Decode It Before You Panic

The IRS mails 200 million notices a year. Most are fixable in one letter — if you respond in time.

CP2000 — 'we think you underreported'

IRS matched a 1099 you didn't include. You have 30 days to agree or dispute. Usually fixable with a signed response and amended return.

LT11 / Letter 1058 — final levy notice

You have 30 days to request a Collection Due Process hearing. Miss it and the IRS can garnish wages and levy bank accounts.

CP504 — intent to levy state refunds

Not the final notice yet, but the next one usually is. Time to enter an installment agreement or dispute.

CP2501 — return verification

Confirm identity through ID.me or by phone. Refund holds until resolved. Common for ITIN filers.

Never ignore, never call the number in a text

The IRS never texts or emails first. Legitimate contact starts with a mailed letter. Verify by calling 800-829-1040 or send it to me — I'll tell you exactly what to do.
